3:30 pm – 6:30 pm
Registration- 3:00-3:30
Plymouth Whitemarsh High School
201 E Germantown Pike, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462

This annual contest provides a forum for students to measure their oral skills in a foreign language against students from other schools in the county. Individual interviews are conducted by foreign language professionals to determine which students are most proficient in the second language.
Eligibility: The contest is open to students from MCATFL member schools. Students must have learned their foreign language in a classroom in the United States. Students who live in a home where the target language is spoken, who have spent more than six consecutive weeks in a country where the language is spoken, or who have learned in an immersion program, are not eligible to compete.

We appreciate that you comply with the spirit of the eligibility guidelines when choosing your contestants so as not to promote an unfair advantage for any participant.

Languages: Students may compete in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, or Spanish.

Levels: In each language the following five levels may be tested:        Click here for guidelines for OPC interview topics at each level.
Students whose study began in the current academic year and who are in a level 1A of a beginning textbook/materials.
Students who are currently enrolled in level 1 and using Level 1B textbook/materials.
Students who are currently enrolled in level 2 or have completed it in a block schedule system.
Students who are currently enrolled in level 3 or have completed it in a block schedule system.
Students who are currently enrolled in level 4 or higher or have completed it in a block schedule system.
Judges reserve the right to withhold an award in any and all levels.

Registration and fees: Each school’s foreign language department may enter one student at each level in each language. There is no registration fee this year, although every teacher who enters a student in the competition must be a member of MCATFL. MCATFL membership costs $15 per year, per teacher. If you are not yet a member, you can join and pay your dues on the day of the contest or online.

There must be a minimum of 3 schools registered for each language at each level. If there are fewer than 3 schools registered, the schools that are registered should then enter 2 participants for each level. Schools will be notified in advance, if this occurs.
