Act 48 Credit- Spring Conference 2016

We ask that you do two things following the workshop:



1. In order to receive full 3 hours credit for the 2016 MCATFL Spring Conference within one week (by April 28) send us a lesson plan that demonstrates the application of something that you learned at the workshop, and participate in the on-line exchange with instructors and participants.  Use the on-line form below to communicate how you are meeting this requirement.

Spring Conference 2016- Authentic Materials Workshop  (April 21, 2016)

The assessment assignment is to find an example of authentic material and build a lesson plan using it.  

The product should show an understanding of how to find and use authentic materials

    1. show an understanding of what constitutes authentic materials and how to find them, 
    2. demonstrate how to integrate authentic materials in a lesson plan with clear learning goals and objectives, and 
    3. include authentic materials in assessment.

The lesson plan, or other product included all the required elements, showed a complete understanding of the basic concepts presented in the workshop, and went beyond the basic expectations of quantity or quality of work.

The lesson plan included all the required elements:  

1. appropriate selection and use of authentic material tool, 

2. learning objectives, and

3. assessment, and showed a complete understanding of the basic concepts presented in the workshop.

The lesson plan included most of required elements, but was missing something in either the product or the documentation of understanding of the basic concepts presented in the workshop.

Little or no evidence of follow-up work or documentation of understanding of the basic concepts presented in the workshop was submitted..

Your materials will be posted in the workshop section of the MCATFL website.

Everyone who 

    1. submits a lesson plan, and 
    2. writes at least one comment in the comment section at the bottom of the page for someone else's lesson plan, and 
    3. responds to feedback on your own lesson plan to demonstrate that you have participated in the on-line activity 

will receive 3 hours of Act 48 credit. 

MCATFL will upload the Act 48 credits to the PDE system by May 12, 2016.


2. After 3 months (by July 21), send us a brief report on any impact that what you learned at the workshop may have had on your students' learning. 


If you have a local district approved Student Learning Objective (SLO) plan, please share any samples of students achievement data that you are collecting to document progress toward your SLO.  If you do not teach in a public school or do not have an official SLO plan, please share samples of student achievement data that may document how your professional development influences your students' language learning.
